Why Thread Count Matters!

Why Thread Count Matters

What do we spend over a third of our life doing? You guessed right, sleeping! I am writing this article on a few reasons why you should consider investing in a fantastic set of sheets for your bed.

Most of us have heard the word thread count before but have often wondered what it really means when we purchase bed linens that are 300-count sheets or even higher. Hopefully after reading this article you will feel more knowledgeable about the topic and will feel more comfortable when you make your next purchase.

Let’s tackle the first question, ‘what is thread count’?

Thread count refers to the number of threads, both vertical and horizontal, in a one-inch square of fabric. The vertical threads are known as the warp and the horizontal threads are known as the weft.

What is Ply?

The ply of the fabric refers to how many threads are wrapped together into a single thread. Single–ply fabrics use threads on their own, while two-ply fabrics twist two pieces together into a stronger thread, and can also double the count of the fabric.

By using a finer thread means that more thread needs to be used to fit into a square inch. The main reason why many people choose to buy fabrics with a higher thread count is that is results in a smoother fabric. A finer thread could result in a very delicate fabric. Two-ply fabrics can resolve this problem a bit by strengthening the thread as well as increasing the thread count of the fabric by double.

A luxury fabric such as Amancara’s would range from a thread count of 500 or more. You can find sheet sets that even surpass 1000 count! Different weaves and different fabrics will have a different feel. For example, a cotton percale sheet is crisper and a more traditional style sheet, while cotton sateen is silkier and has a bit of a sheen to it. Linen sheets, which are very desired in terms of luxury interiors, are in a totally different category and seem to result in a cooler touch due to the airy pockets in their weave. All of Amancara’s sheets are upwards in the luxury range and will be suitable for all seasons and provide a very enjoyable night’s sleep. In addition many of our products are hand embroidered and produced in Italy by some of the most experienced craftsmen in the world. Don’t forget that sheets are an investment, and if cared for properly can last for several years. When you pay for good quality you will reap the benefits for years to come!

When shopping for your next bed set, remember to choose Amancara for a perfect night’s sleep. Don’t you think you deserve the best!
