Soft as Silk

Soft as Silk
Accademia Firenze's La Roche Throw. 70% cashmere 30% silk, Prince of Wales pattern, finished with handknotted fringes.

The most beautiful of all textile fibres, silk is acclaimed as the queen of textiles. It’s the only natural fibre that’s created from filaments up to 1500m long, which are obtained from the cocoon of the silkworm. Even though it’s considered a ‘cool’ fabric in the Orient, silk maintains body heat and so insulates against the winter cold. Strong and absorbent, silk is one of the oldest known textiles, and was first developed in ancient China, with some of the earliest examples dating back to 3500 B.C. The silk moth is native to China, and for almost 30 centuries the gathering and creating of silk remained a secret, known only to the Chinese. China and Japan are the main producers of silk, however for the last 10 years Italy has been the world leader in producing high quality silk.

To guarantee the highest standards, Accademia Firenze Luxury Linen only uses silk produced in Italy. Luxury items containing silk produced by Accademia Firenze include dressing gowns and throws containing a blend of cashmere and silk, perfect to keep you warm and cosy in the way you deserve!
