Cashmere Goats and their Luxurious Locks
Accademia Firenze 100% Mongolian cashmere blankets
Amancara is known for producing the finest quality cashmere products money can buy. Blankets, throws and beautiful scarves are among some of the luxurious items Accademia has been producing since 1952. Our cashmere comes from the goats of Mongolia. There are  many different types of cashmere goats, but the Mongolian species are known for producing the highest quality cashmere around. While dyeing is possible to achieve a wide array of colors, the natural cashmere varieties include shades of black, gray, brown, and white.

Inner Mongolian Cashmere goat
Cashmere goats originally came from the Himalayas and migrated with Chinese herders to Mongolia, Tibet and Northern provinces of China in the 10th and 12th centuries.  With the development of the Asian empire, cashmere slowly began to enter the trade routes in the West. In the 13th century Marco Polo brought cashmere to Italy where it became the fiber of choice among the aristocratic elite.

Shearing a goat

If you are asking yourself, “what makes a Mongolian goat so special", then you have visited the right blog. When pricing cashmere, three aspects are considered: length, width, and texture. Mongolian goats live in a climate that is quite cold, so the colder the weather the longer the hair. These goats have a lot of hair, but under all of that hair you will find slim bodies. The goats usually roam wild in large herds, so the food they eat consists of the plants they are able to find throughout the day. The thinner the goat, the finer the hair. In a nutshell, the environment has a lot to do with the quality of the cashmere. If you have the bright idea to buy one of your own Mongolian goats and bring it back to your home country, then think again. These goats will not produce the same results outside of their natural environment, Mongolia.
